TUARAN: An Australian teenager slipped and hurt her back while hiking up Bukit Borombon in Kiulu here, today.

It is learnt that the 18-year-old girl was subsequently brought down by rescuers from about 400m above sea level.

District Fire and Rescue Department chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said his department received an emergency call on the incident at 1.12pm.

He said eight firefighters were deployed to the location along with an Emergency Services Assistance Unit (EMRS) utility vehicle for the search-and-rescue operation.

"On arrival at the location, the fire brigade gave initial treatment to the victim before bringing her down the hill using a Robinson stretcher," Qawie said.

The victim was then handed over to the medical team and sent to Tuaran Hospital.

The SAR operation ended at 2.45pm.
