JASIN: A divorcee, 46, was killed when he fell from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Bemban here.

He was trying to escape from his lover's flat unit by using a clothesline tied to an iron pole upon realising the woman's husband had suddenly returned home at 11.47am today.

The man, who was confirmed dead at the scene, died from severe head injuries.

Jasin district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mispani Hamdan said the deceased's 37-year-old lover, who lived with three children, claimed he came to her home on Saturday at midnight after her husband had gone out. The man spent the night at the woman's home.

Mispani said about 10.30am today, while the couple was in the living room, the husband returned home and realised the presence of the man.

"The husband immediately locked the front door grille of the home, causing the lovers to be trapped, and called the police.

"Although the woman asked her lover to sort it out with her husband, the man, who is a trader, sought to escape by tying a clothesline to an iron pole in the corridor to climb down.

"The woman, who was in the living room, only saw her lover from a distance before hearing a bang outside the corridor," he said today.

Mispani said that as soon as the woman looked down, she found the man lying motionless on the ground.

"A physical examination of the deceased, who was fully dressed, found traces of soil and blood on his swollen face. His left arm was broken, too," he said.

The woman said she and the deceased first met in 2005, but went their separate ways and eventually settled down with their new partners.

"In 2017, the deceased divorced his wife before rekindling his relationship with the woman despite knowing she was married.

"They were having an affair without the husband's knowledge," Mispani said.

He said the victim's body was sent to the Jasin Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem.
