PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian medical undergraduates at the Kursk State Medical University which is located in the Kursk oblast, Russia near the border with Ukraine are going about their daily lives without a fuss.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis is located about 200 kilometres from the city of Kursk.

President of the Kursk Malaysian Medical Students Association (KMSA), Mirza Syahmi Mohd Yusoff when contacted said most Malaysian students studying at the university are still going to classes, cafes and shopping for necessities as usual even though the institution of higher learning is not far away from the Russian-Ukrainian border.

Even so, he said, a few days ago, some students informed him that it was difficult to withdraw money from certain banks.

"To overcome the problem, we are making withdrawals by online money transfer to local banks or make withdrawals at smaller local banks.

"Although the situation in Kursk is currently calm, the Malaysian Embassy, university management and KMSA are always in touch to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysians in Kursk," he said.

Asked if students are currently taking online classes, Mirza said, for now, classes are still being carried out physically.

However, he said, the university was considering switching to online learning.

Russia's attack on Ukraine on Thursday has raised concerns of some Malaysians with children or family members who are currently in Russia for work, studies or other matters.
