PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry will only suspend Parliament proceedings as a last resort following the rise in Covid-19 cases from the Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said there was no need for the move as there were now regular screenings conducted at Parliament.

"We already have the framework to address cases and clusters that emerge as well as the experience in dealing with the positive cases in Parliament.

"Suspending Parliament (proceedings) is the last option. Regular testing is conducted every two days and from there we will be able to catch any new infections, so there is no need (to adjourn the sitting)," he told a press conference held at the ministry's headquarters today.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said 25 of the 84 positive Covid-19 cases detected in Parliament through periodic screenings were mostly likely to be from the Delta variant.
