MIRI: Residents of the Stephen Jugam longhouse in Ulu Niah were forced to kill an aggressive 3m long crocodile on Monday in fear of their safety, particularly the children.

The reptile was spotted underneath the longhouse a few days ago following floods.

It had also eaten chickens and dogs kept by the villagers.

According to a villager who wanted to remain anonymous, the 100kg crocodile was killed on Monday night.

"The crocodile appeared and stayed underneath the longhouse after our village was flooded three days ago.

"We waited until the water level dropped last night, and we were able to locate and kill it," the villager said.

Meanwhile, Batu Niah fire station head Rary Benjie said they received a call to remove the crocodile's carcass at 6.59am yesterday.

"Upon arrival at the location, we found a crocodile carcass underneath the longhouse.

"The carcass was later handed over to the Sarawak Forestry Department for further action."
