KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno working committee council is scheduled to discuss the political crisis in Melaka, tonight.

Umno executive secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the meeting will be held at the party's headquarters at Menara Dato Onn.

"The physical meeting will start at 8pm," he told Berita Harian.

On Sunday, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Umno Melaka liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali will present the state's political situation, including machinery preparations for the state election.

"Both Rauf and Sulaiman will present the real political situation in Melaka to the party's working committee council, along with other matters related to the state election.

"The party's president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), deputy (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) and prime minister (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) will give their views on the matter," he said.

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on Oct 4, paving the way for a state election that has to be called within 60 days.

This follows the move by four assemblymen – Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) who declared a loss of confidence and withdrew support for Sulaiman's leadership.

The Election Commission (EC) is expected to hold a special meeting in Melaka on Monday (Oct 18) to discuss the implementation of the state election.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak in a statement said the meeting, which will be chaired by EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh, will discuss, among others, the dates concerning the election.
