KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has unveiled plans to feature new faces as candidates in the 23 state constituencies targeted for the next Sabah state election.

Sabah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the party, however, is not yet ready to disclose the identities of these candidates, including youths, as the screening process is still ongoing.

"We also urge potential candidates to engage with the constituents in their respective areas to ensure voters are familiar with our candidates," Bung Moktar told reporters during a media event on Tuesday.

He emphasised the importance of thorough consideration in selecting new candidates, highlighting the criteria of being likeable, electable, and possessing integrity.

Bung Moktar also stressed the significance of commitment to Umno's cause, without succumbing to opportunistic influences or party switching.

"Politics demands a meticulous process. We aim to uphold the party's values by choosing sincere candidates dedicated to Umno's mission," he added.

Recently, Bung Moktar had announced Sabah Umno's intention to contest in at least 23 state constituencies in the forthcoming election, with the party actively engaging in visits to these areas.
