KUALA LUMPUR: Many celebrities have come forward as volunteers to assist frontliners, be it at the vaccination centres (PPV), Covid-19 Low-Risk Treatment, and Quarantine Centres, health clinics, as well as handling the bodies of Covid-19 fatalities.

However, while carrying out their voluntary work, they also have to deal with the negative remarks on social media, with some accusing them of volunteering for fame.

Actor and entrepreneur, Fizo Omar, 36, when asked to comment on such allegations, said negative people would think negatively no matter what.

"But for those who are positive, they will think that it is a good deed as the celebrities are helping to create awareness.

"I don't care about criticisms levelled against me, trying to demoralise me. There is no need to look at celebrities' faults.

"Every celebrity has their fans, following them on social media. So, with many followers on Instagram, I am confident it can help raise awareness about the need for vaccination," he said.

Fizo, whose real name is Wan Hafizol Wan Omar, was one of the first celebrities to volunteer at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia PPV in Bangi since last June.

"I am happy to make this small contribution to the community. I have gained experience and a lot of new knowledge about vaccines," he said.

Another celebrity, Amelia Henderson, 26, said while the netizens may give their comments, God knows her intentions.

"Only God and I know my intention to become a volunteer at the PPV.

"During the volunteering period, I'll make sure that I do my job properly as a volunteer and not a celebrity, but sincerely to help the frontliners at the PPV," she said.

Sharing her experience, Amelia said she made a lot of memories while volunteering at the PPV.

"I got help from the staff there for anything that I was not familiar with, including during the initial training."

Other than Fizo and Amelia, other celebrities who volunteered include Isma Yusoof, Aniq Suhair, Nurul Deep, Sherry Alhadad, Nazim Othman, Hafreez Adam, Mimi Lana, Daiyan Trisha and Puteri Aishah.
