JOHOR BARY: The Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp) is introducing the Early Education Assistance initiative for students from low-income group (B40) in the state.

The Early Education Assistance initiative is provided for families whose parents have lost their jobs and are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Yayasan JCorp the initiative was introduced to help reduce the burden of parents or guardians of dependents during the registration of their children to institutions of higher learning (IPT) while awaiting for education loans and scholarships to be approved.

Yayasan JCorp chairman Rozaini Mohd Sani said since its launch in 2017 until last month some 800 students in Malaysia had received assistance from the Foundation.

Rozaini said the Foundation had disbursed more than RM330,000 for students wanting assistance.

He said the JCorp Foundation targets recipients in the B40 and average family groups and whose household income is below RM800 based on total family dependents.

He stressed that many B40 groups and those families with low income were affected badly in view of the pandemic.

"Some parents have lost their jobs in Singapore and they have a number of dependents to take care," he said, adding that these people could apply for their children should they require assistance.

Rozaini pointed out that the Early Educational Assistance was provided based on the household monthly income eligibility requirements.

It is open to Malaysian students intending to pursue their studies at Certificate and Diploma level as well as those wanting to continue their Bachelor's and Master's programme full-time at local universities or colleges.

He said each student if successful will receive between RM700 and RM1,000 as a one-off registration payment.

"Every application for early education assistance will go through a special screening process by a special committee," he said.

Rozaini hoped that this initiative could at least ease the burden of parents and families to some extent.

He said many families who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic were finding it tough to fund their children's start-up costs to university.

"We understand their plight and hence this Early Educational Assistance will be an aid to the families," he said.
