GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have received instruction to issue a compound to Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).
He was found to have breached the SOP when he test drove a vehicle at a shopping centre and a car exhibition at Autocity Juru last month.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the directive would be relayed to the Menteri Besar's Office soon.
"Further details will be released after it (the directive) has been conveyed to the menteri besar and an official statement will be issued by the state police headquarters after the issuance (of the compound)," he said today.
It was reported that police had probed Sanusi's case involving an alleged violation of restricted movement SOP for test-driving a Ford Raptor in Penang early last month when the country was in full lockdown.
Nine people including Sanusi were reported to have had their statements taken by investigators.
The amount of fine that the Jeneri assemblyman has to pay has yet to be revealed.
Police investigated the June 5 incident under Section 269 of the Penal Code for negligent act likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life and Regulation 17(1) of regulations to prevent and control infectious diseases.
Under Section 269, the offence is punishable with a jail term of up to six months or fine or both.
On June 5, social media was abuzz with pictures and videos showing a man that was believed to be Sanusi test driving a vehicle.
Netizens had criticised him for not being sensitive as the country was in the midst of battling the pandemic.
