MUAR: Fishermen here who have been badly hit due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, recently turned to Bukit Pasir assemblyman, Najib Lep for help.

Apart from having to put food on their tables, fishermen were also worried as their catch was perishable and could not be stored for long.

"If the fish is stored a long time, it will be difficult to be sold as it is no longer fresh," they said.

A group of fishermen then contacted Najib to help them find a solution to their problem and the assemblymen then took to purchasing 600kg of mussels from them.

Mussels are popular in Muar and available in huge supply with tourists dropping by just to purchase them in the past.

"Mussels or Kupang are a main source of livelihood for many fisherman at the Parit Keroma Laut jetty here. Since locals also like mussels, we decided to help the fishermen and also the residents in Muar by donating the shellfish to them", said Najib.

Pagoh Jaya residents received the mussels from Najib and his team, as they stopped by to pick the readily packed mussels.

"I am happy to help them out. At least they are able to sell their catch and the residents here can also enjoy some fresh mussels," added Najib.
