KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry today reported 24 new Covid-19 clusters, including nine linked to workplace.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the nine workplace-linked clusters were detected in Selangor (Jalan Bunga Azalea), Johor (Jalan Makasar), Penang (Teknologi Juru and Jalan Kampung Juru), Sabah (Lorong Karamunsing, Jalan Tun Fuad and Jalan Pengalat Lok Kawi) and Melaka (Jalan Dato Dol Said and Bukit Tempayan).

"Of the nine, the Lorong Karamunsing cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases with 28.

"The index case of this cluster was a 19-year-old man who tested positive on May 11, following a symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 106 individuals were screened," he said in a statement.

Dr Noor Hisham said six clusters stemming from religious activities were recorded today.

The clusters were recorded in Selangor (Jalan Iskandar and Taman Sri Muda), Johor (Jalan Perwira Lapan and Taman Maju Jaya), Kedah (Dah Berapit) and Sabah (Jalan Kretam Silimpopom).

Of the six religious-linked clusters, the Jalan Kretam Silimpopom cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases at 42.

"The index case of this cluster was a 33-year-old man who tested positive on May 16 following a symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 142 individuals were screened," he said.

As for community-linked clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said seven more were unearthed in Sarawak (Kenyalang Park and Kampung Tebakang), Kedah (Dah Insun), Penang (Padang Lalang Dua), Melaka (Batu Lapan Bukit Rambai) and Pahang (Jalan Dara and Sri Tanjung).

"Of the seven clusters, the Dah Isun cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases at 35.

"The index case of this cluster was a 35-year-old woman from Paya Mat Insun who tested positive on May 15 following a symptomatic individual screening. To date, 284 individuals were screened."

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said one cluster each was recorded linked to a high-risk group and an educational institution under the Education Ministry.

"The cluster linked to the high-risk group was detected in Terengganu (Tok Dor), involving Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Besut districts.

"It involved the staff and residents at an elderly care centre, where the index case was a 76 year-old woman who tested positive on May 16, following a symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 63 were screened with 25 testing positive."

The education institution cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said, was reported in Kelantan (Kandis).

"The index case of this cluster was a 43-year-old woman who tested positive on May 12, following a symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 48 individuals were screened with 25 tested positive."

Dr Noor Hisham said with the new 24 clusters recorded today, Malaysia now has 528 active clusters.
