KUANTAN: The Safety Campaign 2021, jointly launched by Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), targets to achieve "zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) accidents" for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said that concerted efforts by the ECRL project owner, main contractor and subcontractors are vital to ensure a safe working environment at all times.

"Embracing a positive safety culture around the clock (24 hours a day and 7 days a week) will be crucial in achieving the zero LTI objective. MRL and CCC-ECRL have continuously cultivated high safety standards and procedures among our personnel as workplace health and safety remain the top priority.

"We have also embarked on strategies to help identify potential hazards and accidents from occurring at our project sites, as we aim for a safe atmosphere in the construction of the ECRL alignment between Kota Baru in Kelantan to Port Klang, Selangor," he said in a statement.

Darwis, along with CCC-ECRL managing director Bai Yinzhan, were present at the launch of the campaign, which was held in Maran near here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Bai said that safety has always been their top priority and the campaign reiterates the importance of health and safety awareness, and enforcement on all ongoing works at the ECRL project to ensure undeviating progress.

"CCC-ECRL aspires to set a reference standard on railway construction and safety in Malaysia. To achieve this, the management and staff have put in relentless effort in making progressive improvement to their safety management system, which includes the training of over 1,000 personnel through simulation and reactive safety exercises at their safety training centres.

"These training centres are equipped with a state-of-the-art VR simulation with nearly 100 potential hazardous onsite situations and offer real-life experiences such as electric shock, safety helmet crash and retaining wall pushing-over," he said.

General managers from various sections of the ECRL alignment, who will kick-start the campaign at their sites, were also present at the launch ceremony.

Last month, the ECRL project reported a 20.83 per cent completion rate, slightly ahead of schedule, backed by swift and safe construction works at 94 priority locations in Section B (Dungun–Mentakab).
