GEORGE TOWN: First Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj is sure to be disappointed with the country's current state of affairs, especially the division among the Malays.

According to Penang Malay Association (Pemenang) president Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff, Tunku would also be sad to see the friction among the various races, which is the nation's bedrock to achieve its independence.

He said Tunku was the epitome of the unity symbol and was always fair and just to all.

"As the Bapa Kemerdekaan and Bapa Malaysia, Tunku is loved and respected by all Malaysians.

"Today marks Tunku's 118th birthday

"If he is still with us, surely he will be disappointed and sad with the state of affairs in the country and the divisions between the Malays and the various races," said Yusoff today.

Born in Istana Tiga Tingkat in Alor Star, Kedah on Feb 8, 1903, Tunku died at the age of 87 on Dec 6, 1990.

Tunku was among those instrumental in charting Malaysia's path to independence which was achieved on Aug 31, 1957.
