KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has reduced the number of train services between the states and the city following the latest spike in Covid-19 cases.
The reduction involves two phases until the end of the Movement Control Order (MCO) for electric train services (ETS).
Its chief operating officer Mohd Zain Mat Taha, in a statement today, said the first phase will include 12 ETS services which will operate daily from Jan 16 to Jan 20, compared to the previous 24 services in the Gemas - Padang Besar sector.
"In the second phase, only four ETS services will operate in the same sector from Jan 21 to Jan 26, compared to the previous 12 services," he said.
Zain said the services of the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran and Ekspres Selatan will be suspended temporarily until the expiration of the order.
"Only 10 Shuttle Timuran services in the Kuala Lipis - Tumpat sector will operate daily from Jan 16 to Jan 26," he added.
KTM Komuter services will operate with 112 services on weekdays, with 60 services on weekends and public holidays for the Klang Valley sector from January 18.
For the north KTM Komuter, the system will operate using the existing timetable and has not undergone any changes.
"The services of some trains still need to be continued taking into account specific needs.
"This includes the delivery of medical and food materials as well as the movement of staff of various important services involved in the enforcement of the order at this time," he said.
