KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has temporarily shut down 59 of its electrical substations due to the flood situation in Pahang and Johor, which will affect 2,132 users.

A total of 55 substations were shut down in several districts in Pahang including Temerloh, Jerantut and Bera, involving 882 users with 12 substations receiving their supplies through generators.

TNB, in a statement, said it has provided mobile power sets and portable power sets to 20 flood evacuation centres which are no longer receiving power supply via the affected substations.

It added that no electrical substations were closed for two days in a row in the states of Terengganu and Kelantan due to the improving flood conditions.

"The closure of the electrical substation during the flood was done for the safety of consumers. TNB always strives to restore supply by taking into account the safety aspects of consumers and TNB employees.

"To ensure effective flood management, TNB has activated operation rooms in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Johor for monitoring purposes and to convey information related to power supply," TNB said.

Consumers in flood-hit areas are advised to comply with the instructions of the authorities if they are requested to evacuate and to contact the TNB Careline at 15454.

"Always stay away from electric poles, electrical installations and electric cables, including those which had been immersed in water. It is possible that they still have an electric current and can pose a risk of electrical shock.

"People are also advised to be careful when using electrical equipment if their premises are flooded," TNB added.

Consumers are advised to seek the services of a wiring contractor registered with the Suruhanjaya Tenaga once the flood has receded to inspect the wiring in their respective premises.
