BEAUFORT: Thirty-five villagers are still seeking shelter at the temporary evacuation centre in Dewan Datuk Mohd Dun Banir as floods in the district began showing signs of improvement.

As at 8am, flood victims from 13 families were still placed at the relief centre. They are 18 adults and 17 children.

Although the floods had receded, district Civil Defence Force officer Mohd Mayroof Koibil said 45 villages were still affected following the spill over from Sungai Padas since two days ago.

"Among the affected villages are Kampung Lajau, Lupak, Selinsing, Gadong, Lawa, Batu 65, Jabang, Bingkul, and Binunuk.

"The Sungai Padas water level reading has gone down to 9.08 metres as compared to 9.33 metres last night. It is still at the dangerous level," he said in a statement, today.

Mohd Mayroof reminded the people, especially those residing by the river and low-lying area, to always be alert with the flooding situation and the current weather condition.

He also urged the public to immediately contact the force should they require assistance to move to a relief centre.
