KUALA LUMPUR: The country continues to record four-digit new Covid-19 cases, with 1,220 cases reported as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today's figures brought the cumulative number of infections to 89,133, and increased the number of active cases to 14,671.

He said six were imported cases, while the remaining 1,214 were local infections.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor remained the highest contributor of cases with 368 cases or 30.2 per cent.

He said 247 of the new cases were from active Covid-19 clusters and ongoing close contact screenings.

"This followed by Kuala Lumpur with a total of 297 cases and Sabah with 184 cases.

"A total of 135 cases are related to prison clusters, involving Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (98), Tembok cluster (36), and Seberang Perai Prison cluster (1)," he said in a statement today.

He said a total of 1,297 people had been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 74,030 (83.1 per cent of the total number of cases).

Dr Noor Hisham said three deaths were reported, bringing the death toll from Covid-19 in the country to 432.

They were reported in Sabah (2) and Johor (1).

He said 106 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 53 requiring ventilators.
