PETALING JAYA: PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) is anticipating an increase of about 40 to 50 per cent in vehicle volume during the long weekends.

PLUS chief commercial officer Christine Liew said it had recorded about one million vehicles daily during the recent Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

"We are expecting an increase in highway traffic during the upcoming long weekends, starting with the Sultan of Selangor's birthday tomorrow (Friday), followed by the Christmas and New Year public holidays.

"We hope that this will also translate into having more people stopping at our rest areas (R&R) to support the local business partners and buy local products," she said, adding that there were about 600 business partners to date.

Liew said there would be special promotions at selected R&Rs throughout the month of December until early January.

Patrons could get further details on the promotions and offers from PLUS Malaysia Facebook and Instagram pages, she said.

"There is also a pre-order function in the PLUS app, which enables food ordering from selected R&R's, which is convenient for those on the go," said Liew.

She also urged those who would stop at the R&Rs to adhere to the Covid-19 safety standard operating procedures (SOP) by wearing a face mask; registering themselving using the MySejahtera application; temperature screening and keeping a safe distance of one-metre apart especially when queuing for food or using the facilities there.

Liew said PLUS had stressed on the importance of hygiene at all of its facilities by constantly cleaning and sanitising them.

There are 24 R&Rs on the PLUS expressway.
