KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd has announced rearrangement of certain routes to optimise resources and assets as the company faced a variety of challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It said, in a statement, that the move followed a 58 per cent decline in the number of passengers since March.

"This restructuring measure will be implemented in stages and these route changes for buses will be made from time to time. Passengers will always be informed about these changes."

It said the changes were being implemented based on thorough studies regarding the trends of passenger demand data and the overall declining number of passengers, especially in some routes that saw a big drop in passenger volume.

"Currently, the total number of bus passengers for all routes under Rapid Bus has decreased from about 429,000 passengers a day before the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March this year to about 180,000 passengers a day, which is a decrease of about 58 percent.

"Rapid Bus reassures customers that alternative travel routes are available for each changed route."

It said the changes which were announced on Nov 19, and which began to take place since Dec 1 also involved merging, termination and rearrangement of several routes.

"Rapid Bus, like other public transport companies, is not spared from the impact of Covid-19, which has reduced the number of passengers and hit revenue.

"One of the initiatives taken was to evaluate all our routes, especially those with very small passenger numbers. However, we want to emphasize that detailed studies will be done before any decision is made." it said.
