KOTA BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan has risen to 294 people from 77 families, who are taking shelter at 10 flood relief centres (PPS) across the state, as of 10am today.

Flooding has worsened since yesterday, with parts of three districts – Kota Baru, Tanah Merah and Pasir Putih – inundated.

According to the state Welfare Department's flood website, the 294 victims were evacuated since yesterday afternoon after floodwaters rose in their villages.

The number of flood victims is expected to rise in the next few hours due to continuous rain since last night.

Meanwhile, the Golok river in Rantau Panjang breached its danger level today, following unrelenting downpours since yesterday.

According to the website, the river was measured at 9.08m as of 10am, which is 0.08m above its danger level of 9m.

In Tanah Merah, the Golok river also recorded a reading above its alert level of 21.50m. The river was measured at 22.09m as of 10am.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange level warning, indicating bad weather for several areas in Kelantan and Terengganu.

It identified the areas as Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok and Pasir Putih in Kelantan; and Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu.

The department has warned of strong winds, particularly along coastal stretches of east coast states in the peninsula.
