KOTA BARU: All events planned for Sultan Muhammad V's birthday celebration this year have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kelantan State Secretary Datuk Nazran Muhammad said the events included inspection of the guard-of-honour, a ceremony to mark the commencement of the Ruler's birthday celebration, and the investiture ceremony.

"Sultan Muhammad V has consented to all events planned in conjunction with his 51st birthday celebration to be cancelled due to the current Covid-19 situation in the country.

"The Ruler also expressed his disappointment in not being able to celebrate his birthday with the rakyat, like in previous years," he said in a statement.

Nazran said Sultan Muhammad V hopes that the people will always adhere to the regulations set by the government and follow all the standard operating procedures (SOP) to help break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

"Sultan Muhammad V will always pray to Allah that the pandemic will end soon and that life will return to normal," Nazran added.

Nov 11 and 12 are public holidays marking the Sultan's birthday in Kelantan.
