KEPALA BATAS: Muslims in Penang are advised against visiting the cemeteries on Hari Raya day amid the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) chairman Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman said this is for the safety of everyone and part of an effort to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

"Visiting cemeteries are not compulsory. Hence, it can be put on hold.

"I urge fellow Muslims to be patient and adhere to the CMCO," he said when met after handing over house key replicas to five Muslim asnaf families at Kampung 20, Penaga here today.

When asked about Friday prayers in the state which is expected to resume this Friday, he said only 15 people from the respective mosque committee members were allowed to attend it.

"The guidelines are in the pipeline and will be implemented beginning this week.

"The people are urged to cooperate and understand the situation," he added.

Friday prayers, which were suspended following the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March, will recommence later this week under strict control.

It will be held according to guidelines set by the National Security Council (NSC) and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
