KANGAR: Muslim preacher Ebit Lew has been advised not to let the challenges he is facing prevent him from doing good deeds.

Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said Ebit did not have to take the criticisms and accusations by certain parties to heart, as they could affect the good deeds he had been doing.

He said the test he was facing could be from Allah to increase his good deeds or improve on the good things he had done.

"If he is sincere about helping people, there shouldn't be any problem.

"Don't take it seriously as it's part and parcel of life.

"It's normal that when people see a person do something good, they will give their opinion or criticise. Even a singer who entertains people cannot avoids criticism," Asri said in a recorded lecture on Facebook yesterday.

On Friday, Ebit, through a Facebook posting, said he had decided not to help the poor directly after he was called to give a statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

On some parties questioning Ebit's sincerity, Asri said as a human being, it's not something that needs other people's interference as it involves the goodwill of a person with God.

"When a person gives a donation, it's not our problem to know if he is sincere or not as it's between him and Allah."
