KUANTAN: The state government is constantly monitoring influenza development in the state to prevent an outbreak of the disease.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail ensures the public that all efforts and precautionary measures are being taken to ensure that the situation is under control.

He also urged the people to take extra precautions during the flu season, to help stop the spread of influenza.

"Do follow the preventive measures as stated by the Health Ministry, such as covering your mouth with a tissue or handkerchief, using a face mask, frequently wash your hands and get vaccinated at the nearest medical facility," he told the New Straits Times today.

Wan Rosdy also extended his condolences to the family of the one-year girl who died at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (Hoshah) in Temerloh last month, after testing positive for Influenza A, also known as H1N1.

He also hoped her twin sister, who was still warded at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, will recover soon.

"My sympathies to the grieving family. They are going through a difficult time," he added.

Meanwhile, checks by the NST in Kuantan showed that most private medical centres had run out of influenza vaccine stock.

Klinik As-Salam Indera Mahkota said its stock ran out two days ago, while two private hospitals informed they finished up their supplies since earlier this week.
