SEREMBAN: A total of 22 cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) had been recorded in the first week of 2020 from Dec 29, 2019 to Jan 4, an increase of six cases compared to the same period last year.

State Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S Veerapan said, however no clusters had been reported to date.

“The current state of ILI disease in Negri Sembilan is within the normal range and in control.

“For 2019, a total of 1,598 cases with 27 clusters of ILI had been reported. The cases are within normal range except for the increase in cases reported from epid week 27 to epid week 33,” he said in a statement here today.

He advised people to seek early treatment if they experience symptoms such as high fever, colds, cough and fatigue.

“High risk individuals – pregnant women, children under the age of five and chronically ill patients such as asthma and diabetes – should seek immediate treatment in the event of these symptoms.

“Drink enough water to stay hydrated and reduce outdoor activity during hot weather. Regularly wash your hands, avoid crowded places and practice good cough and sneeze etiquette,” he said.
