KUALA TERENGGANU: Floods hit Kampung Cheting in Hulu Terengganu forcing 33 people to evacuate their home after midnight.

The victims from seven families were evacuated to the Kampung Cheting mosque in stages following heavy and continuos rainfall since yesterday evening.

State Civil Defence Force director Lt Kol (PA) Che Adam Abd Rahman said evacuation started from 11pm onwards.

"Heavy rain caused large volume of water to run off the hills and caused flash floods which inundated several houses.

"Evacuation had to be carried out as a precaution and to prevent untoward incidents," said Che Adam who expects all the victims to return home before noon today.

He said all disaster management comittees in the state have been activated following the Meteorological Department's forecast of heavy and continuos rain in the East coast states of Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
