KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd is working closely with various workers’ unions on the execution of its business transformation plan as announced on Nov 1.

In a statement today, it said the move to include the unions in the process is to ensure that there is transparency in the implementation process; and that all obligations to employees are given priority.

It said the unions involved in the discussion are the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) New Straits Times Press (NSTP) branch; the National Union of Newspaper Workers (NUNW) NSTP branch; Kesatuan Sekerja Kakitangan Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd; and Kesatuan Eksekutif Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd.

“All parties have reached an understanding that a fair and equitable compensation, governed by the law and the respective union collective agreements, will be adhered to,” it said.

On Nov 1, Media Prima announced that it will embark on a business transformation exercise, which would involve a downsizing of operations. The move would entail changing its business model and executing internal restructuring to enable the group to be sustainable and competitive in the future, amidst an uncertain macroeconomic environment and disruption to the global and domestic media landscape.

In addition to fair and equitable compensation, Media Prima said it will also provide support services to affected employees, including outplacement services and career counselling.
