KANGAR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) to date has helped more than 11,000 workers who were laid off to secure replacement jobs.

Human Resource Ministry secretary-general Datuk Amir Omar said this was made possible by a job replacement programme organised by Socso to help members who have lost their jobs.

“Socso’s Employment Insurance System which was put in place in January 2018 has seen 24,397 members who have lost their jobs to apply for benefits worth RM67.5 million.

“They were also placed on Socso’s Job Replacement Programme to help get them back on their feet again,” he said.

Amir said he was pleased that many people has benefited from Socso’s programme.

“To date I am happy to announce that through the EIS Perkeso (Socso Employment Insurance Scheme), about 11,585 have been able to secure new jobs under the job replacement programme.

“The EIS programme is also opened to the public as Socso wants to help more people to get good jobs,” he said.

He said this after launching the EIS Perkeso’s Advocacy Programme and Job Carnival at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma here today.

At today’s event more than 16 companies opened kiosks for the benefit of Socso members as well as members of the public who were seeking jobs.

Job seekers were given coaching on resume and CV (curriculum vitae) writing, job counselling, free haircuts, photo booth for professional resume photos and even free motorcycle service.

For the morning session today, more than 200 people attended the programme and 20 have been hired for new jobs. A total of 956 jobs were made available.
