MIRI: The flood situation in northern Sarawak which has affected five settlements, a primary school and a clinic is under control.

Marudi fire and rescue chief Iskandar Aus said the affected villages were Long Loyang, Kampung Ulu Teru, Kampung Long Sobeng, Kampung Long Jegan and Kampung Long Teru.

He said SK Sungai Bong was also affected.

He said some low-lying areas were still under a metre of water, but no villagers had been evacuated.

“The situation has been improving since morning as the floodwaters havetarted to recede.

“However, villagers have been told to stay alert.

“If there’s heavy downpour (again), they will be hit by floods again, particular those living around the low-lying villages near the river,” he said.

“We will monitor the situation on the ground closely.”
