LINGGA: The students of SMK Lingga, here, were shocked when a python appeared as they were having their tea break at the school’s dining hall yesterday.

State Civil Defence Department (APM) public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said, in the 4.30pm incident, a cook had made the slithery discovery and alerted the security guard, who then contacted the Civil Defence Force.

“The snake, measuring 3.65m long and weighing 13kg, must have lost its way and hidden in the drain near the dining hall, before trying to sneak in,” she said, adding that three APM personnel arrived at the scene at 5.03pm and took 20 minutes to subdue the reptile.

“The snake tried to escape into the small drain hole in the kitchen,” she told the New Straits Times today.

She said the operation ended at 5.23pm and the reptile was placed at the Sri Aman APM operation room.

“We will use the python as part of the staff training programme on how to handle and catch snakes,” she added.
