KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed concern over the current hot weather plaguing the nation.

In an official statement on Thursday, issued by Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, Malaysians were advised to take precautionary measures to safeguard their health and cautioned against conducting any open-burning activities which could worsen the situation.

According to the statement, the soaring temperatures, resulting from a combination of factors including the lack of cloud cover and low rainfall common during the end of the north-east monsoon season, caused the driest period in the country.

“His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong further advises Malaysians to be vigilant and extra careful during the onslaught of hot weather. Children and the elderly should be monitored closely as they are more vulnerable to the effects of the increased temperatures.

“His Majesty calls on everyone to constantly stay hydrated and strongly cautions against any open burning and hopes that the people will take greater care of themselves and their loved ones during this heatwave,” read the statement.
