GEORGE TOWN: The state government is yet to receive the feasibility study for the undersea tunnel from its developer Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the state government will only receive the final report after it was checked by the appointed independent consultant engineer, HSS Engineers Bhd (HSS Engineers).

“We have yet to receive the final report of the feasibility study for the undersea tunnel project.

“The final report is the one submitted to HSS Engineers for checks before the consultant hands over to the state government,” he said in a press conference today.

He was responding to an online news report that the feasibility study has been completed and the report will be sent to the state government before it is finalised.

Quoting a source, the portal also mentioned that the report is being checked by an independent consultant.

The RM6.3 billion project, which involves the 7.2km undersea tunnel and three paired roads, is being undertaken by Consortium Zenith.

Meanwhile, Chow said Bukit Bendera goers can now enjoy free WiFi during their visits.

He said the WiFi service is an initiative by Penang Hill Corporations (PBBPP) with the cooperation of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).

“There are 22 access points with a speed of 100Mbps. PBBPP is delighted with the cooperation of TM to improve the internet connectivity in Bukit Bendera. This will enable the visitors to stay connected while holidaying there,” he added.
