GEORGETOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today made a visit to The New Straits Times Press (M) bureau office in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Chow's first visit with his staff from the Chief Minister's Office and the state's DAP supreme leadership lasted an hour in a harmonious and friendly atmosphere.

Chow said for the past 10 years, he has been visiting every Chinese-language newspaper to hand out mandarin oranges in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

“However, this year, I decided to extend my visit to other media in the state, especially the Malay and English newspapers.

“I’m so happy with this visit and I hope the close ties between the media and the Chief Minister’s Office will continue,” he said when met here today.

Also present were NSTP Corporate Communication chief Wan Abdillah Wan Nawi, NSTP Regional Advertising head S Lingaraj, Penang Sales and Distribution Manager Wan Zarifah Wan Ibrahim and Penang bureau chief Audrey Dermawan.

Chow also handed out a few boxes of mandarin oranges, tossed yee sang, and had lunch with over 20 NSTP staff.

For the record, Chow is the first Chief Minister to have visited the bureau office since it was established in 1992.

Meanwhile, Chow expressed hope that this coming Chinese New Year would mean the most to Penangites, specifically in the economy and social development aspect.

“I hope Penang economy would continue to prosper and bring huge impact, especially to businesses, and bring more job opportunities,” he said.
