GEORGE TOWN: The state government is waiting for the report from the Department of Occupational Safety and Heath (DOSH) before all the findings on the landslide incident at the Bukit Kukus paired road project could be revealed.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said it had received investigation report from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Special Investigation Committee that would be handed over to DOSH for further action.

“We received the reports from both (city council and investigation committee) but (they were) for internal knowledge only.

“We are waiting for DOSH’s report and if it orders for it to be made public, then we will do it.

“What I can say is that the landslide was due to safety issues at the construction site,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Nine site workers were killed and four others injured in the landslide at the Bukit Kukus paired roads project site on Oct 19 last year.

The project is currently under stop-work order by the DOSH and the city council.

Police, DOSH, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the special committee are conducting separate investigations into the mishap.

The completion of the RM545 million elevated road project, which serves as an alternative road linking Lebuhraya Thean Teik in Bandar Baru Air Itam to Lebuh Bukit Jambul, is expected to be delayed by a year, from the initial completion date of March 2019.
