KUALA LUMPUR: The hot weather that Malaysians are experiencing now is due to the lack of rain in the past few days.

This follows a change in the wind pattern brought about by the movement of tropical storm Pabuk in the country's waters.

Director of the National Weather and Geophysical Operations Center, Meteorological Department of Malaysia (Metmalaysia), Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, said now that the tropical storm had moved out from the country, wind conditions are expected to return to their normal state.

"Previously, wind conditions changed due to tropical storm Pabuk but now the wind is blowing in from the northeast.

"So we expect rainfall to be back to normal in the West Coast states with daily rain in the afternoon and in the east cast states, Sabah and Sarawak, the wet spell taking place in the morning, he said.

Dr Mohd Nor said the El Nino phenomenon was also expected to occur early this year but it is likely to be in a weak state.

"The weak El Nino situation does not affect the weather in the country except in Sabah which is expected to see less rainfall," he said.
