SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah PKR is confident that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not break his promise in paving the way to the party’s president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the eighth prime minister.

The party’s state Leadership Council chairman Datuk Johari Abdul said there was no issue or problem in appointing Anwar, even though now many Umno members of parliament had joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

“When Pakatan Harapan (PH) was preparing to face the 14the General Election, one of the manifestos was to accept Dr Mahathir as Prime Minister for two years and then Anwar would be next.

“Praise to God, we won and PKR won majority of the seats. Even though we are the majority in Parliament, we still hold on to the promise that Dr Mahathir is the Prime Minister. Surely he would make good on his promise,” he said when met yesterday.

When asked if he would be the Kedah Menteri Besar to replace Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir should Anwar become the prime minister after this, Johari just laughed it off.

“But if I were given a chance whether to sit in Federal by becoming a minister or become the Kedah Menteri Besar, I would choose to be Menteri Besar.

“I’ve been in Parliament for three terms, and I would like to serve my people and my Sultan. I know I can do this job well,” he said.

Commenting on Umno MPs joining PH, the Sungai Petani MP said it was not a licence to escape the law.

“If they are involved in corruption or stealing, and then they joined PH, it won’t deter the authorities from taking action against them,” he said.
