KUALA LUMPUR: Only 11,484 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) houses were built, far short of the 500,000 targeted, by the end of this year, revealed the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Its Minister Zuraidah Kamaruddin noted that houses under construction for the project were 141,347 units.

“In regards to PR1MA, I do not wish to say because I do not wish to make a polemic out of the matter as it is our (ministry) responsibility to build houses.

“However, I also wish to mention that PR1MA should have built 500,000 houses by 2018, but only 11,484 are finished, 141,347 under construction and 347,000 still under planning,” she said today.

She was speaking during wrapping-up speech in the committee stage of the Supply Bill 2019 for her ministry at the Dewan Rakyat.

Zuraidah assured that the PR1MA project would still be continued by the government.

Established under the PR1MA Act 2012, the project sought to build houses priced between RM100,000 and RM400,000, which is 20 to 30 per cent cheaper than market rate.

PR1MA initially targeted to construct 500,000 homes by this year.

However, it has struggled to meet the target.
