KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 55 Malaysian-Indian students who are studying in various universities and colleges here will receive a disbursement of RM290,000 under the Indian Scholarship & Trust Fund (ISTF).

Indian High commissioner Shri Mridul Kumar announced this today at a lunchtime ceremony at the Indian Cultural Centre at Menara Sentral Vista in Brickfileds.

He said the occasion marks the 72 years of activities of the ISTF for Malaysian-Indian students.

He said selection of the recipients was done by an independent five-member selection committee of eminert educationists and academicians.

”The IHC (Indian High Commission) is the sole trustee of the fund. And this year I was happy to learn that 8 to 10 applicants achieved all A’s in their exams.”

He said the ISTF was first created in 1946 by the first Indian prime minister Shri Jawarharlal Nehru to benefit and assist Malaysian -Indian students on an annual basis.

Over the years the fund was augmented by contributions from other Indian prime.ministers including Shri Narendra Modi who gave a grant of RM3 million during his 2015 visit.
