KUALA LUMPUR: International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking today urged China to buy more Malaysian products.

The minister made this request to Chinese Ambassador Bai Tian at the ‘Building a Better Future Together’ photography exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

”We need your business. We need you to continue to import from us. As the minister of trade, I urge you to buy a lot from Malaysia and bring back to China,” he said.

To ensure that the good relationship enjoyed by both countries would continue to flourish, the minister said Malaysia would ensure that it would be easy for the Chinese to do business here.

”We will make sure that trade relations continue to grow. Take it from me, or the Malaysian Government, that no matter what happens following the review of contracts or cancellation, it will not destabilise our relationship. It is for the good of the nation. We want to clean up any dealings that may have gone wrong,” he said.

Bai said there was huge potential and bright prospects between the two countries.

”From the exhibition, you can see how China and Malaysia have progressed and developed together,” he said.

The two-day event, which features 200 photographs taken by photographers and journalists of both countries, commemorates the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy initiated by Deng Xiaoping.

It covers three major themes — the early days of China’s reform and opening-up, the start and growth of the relationship between Malaysia and China, and key moments in the development of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The exhibition, which is organised by the Chinese Embassy and Malaysia-China Culture and Arts Association, will tour other parts of the Klang Valley and the country.
