ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state government will review the existing home ownership mechanism and housing policies to make it easier for the people in the state to own homes.
State Housing, Industry and Investment and Local Government Committee chairman Tan Kok Yew said the state government is always sensitive to the needs of the people so that each family can own a house.
"Any state government wants to provide housing for the people but there is always this problem of a mismatch between supply and demand.
We will look at existing and future projects so that more affordable homes can be launched and also find out why so many people still can't afford to own homes by looking at their purchasing power as well as their eligibility," Tan said at the Kedah legislative assembly today.
He said some buyers can afford to buy a house but can't do so as they do not meet other criterias. Thus there is a need to tweak the existing housing policies.
“We will find a better solution for the people’s welfare to ensure that they can own a house and build a quality family,” said Tan who was answering an additional question by Azhar Ibrahim (PAS-Ayer Hitam).
Azhar, earlier asked whether the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state government had a programme that could meet a single family home or a programme that could fulfill the existing manifesto.
Meanwhile, answering to Azhar’s question on the progress of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Ayer Hitam, Tan who is also Derga assemblyman said the project involve the construction of 630 PPR units mainly for the Kubang Pasu district.
“As of June 30, the status of the PPR is 52.03 per cent completed and buyers need to meet the conditions set out such as a Malaysian citizen, married and earn a household income of less than RM3,000,” he said.
