GEORGE TOWN: A vegetarian restaurant here has introduced a new menu - Nasi Harapan - in conjunction with the Merdeka month.

At only RM1.90, patrons can enjoy some cucumber, broccoli, ‘fucuk’ (tofu skin) and gravy at the Mama Vege Restaurant within the Gurney Plaza here.

Its owner, Ong How Yong, 34, said the idea came about to symbolise the establishment of the new Pakatan Harapan government.

“I am sure the people are happy with a new administration after 60 years.

“As such, I am taking this opportunity to prepare the Nasi Harapan, in conjunction with the Merdeka month, besides to help ease the burden of the lower income group,” he said when met today.

Nasi Harapan has been in the market since Aug 1 and set to continue until Sept 30. It is serves during lunch.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said he welcomed the restaurant's initiative to further ignite the spirit of independence during the Merdeka month.

“They have done something good. Whenever we visit shopping centres, we only find expensive food.

“This is no longer the case. Now, everyone can afford to eat a healthy meal,” he added.
