GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Free School (PFS) will relive its past by staging the classic play by William Shakespeare ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, which was staged by the school in 1918.

The play, which is expected to attract some 600 people, will be staged at the school hall on June 29 and 30.

PFS board of governors chairman Datuk Abdul Rafique Karim said he hoped people would enjoy musical play which will be enacted by members of the school’s Music and Drama Society.

“The play was staged at the City Council Hall in 1918, but this time we will have it in PFS’ hall,” he said.

Tickets for the play can be purchased at PFS at 04-2815814 or Old Frees’ Association (OFA) office at 04-2269290.

Tickets, priced at RM30 and RM50 (VIP), can also be obtained at the OFA office at 41, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, 10050, from 10am to 6pm.

On Oct 21, 2016, PFS celebrated its bicentenary celebration with over 5,000 former students and teachers in attendance.

The huge turnout was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the biggest of its kind for a school reunion event.

Luminaries such as Malaysia’s founding father Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj and silver screen legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee were some of the school’s famous students.

In February this year, PFS was declared a national heritage site.
