GEORGE TOWN: A criminal, who escaped following a high speed car chase on Monday night which saw his car tyre being shot at, was detained by police in a house in Taman Lip Sin here today.
In the noon raid, police also nabbed his 30-year-old friend, who works in a factory.
Sources said the 36-year-old suspect, who works as a carpenter, had admitted to fleeing from police while his friend did not admit doing so.
“Checks showed the suspect had committed seven drug-related offences while a search about his friend yielded nothing.
“However, we have taken both of them into custody and they will be remanded tomorrow,” the source said.
It was reported that police were in hot pursuit of the suspect who escaped following a high speed car chase on Monday night from Lebuh Carnovan to Cangkat Minden here.
During the chase, police also fired at his Proton Waja’s tyre.
State police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the suspect had driven in a dangerous manner, knocking into several cars.
He added that the suspect had also reversed and almost knocked into police personnel, forcing police to fire a shot at the tyre.
A search inside the suspect’s car led police to the seizure of drug inhaling equipment and a parang.
