JOHOR BARU: Johor water utility company SAJ Ranhill Sdn Bhd (SAJ) spent a total of RM10.6 million for the maintenance works on water pipes and main water tanks inlets around the state this year.

According to SAJ chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman, of the RM10.6 million, about RM3.4 million was spent on water restoration distribution system with the replacement of 173 water storage tanks in low level areas to ensure water supply in low pressure areas continue to receive smooth supply.

"SAJ understands water usage demand can increase by 300 percent during the festive season," he said.

Ahmad Faizal added that SAJ will continue with its repair works which started on June 8 and is set to go on until June 22.

"The repairs also include replacing some old pipes network that is over 20 years old," he said.

To supply treated and clean water, Ahmad Faizal said 44 water plants and 673 water tanks including 91 water pump houses remain constantly active to ensure the tanks' water levels are always at maximum.
