KUALA LUMPUR: The police are still trying to track down Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos who went missing from his bed at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital yesterday evening.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat, said police had been looking for him at his house in Ampang and at his relatives’ homes.
“There are no new developments (on the case). We have done everything (to locate Jamal),” he said in a WhatsApp reply to the New Straits Times today.
The controversial political figure was charged with committing a public nuisance after he led a protest on Oct 5 in front of the Selangor State Secretariat building.
He had smashed crates of beer with a sledgehammer as a sign of protest against the controversial Better Beer Festival 2017.
He was charged under Section 290 of the Penal Code and is facing a RM400 fine if convicted.
In a separate case, Jamal was arrested on Tuesday to facilitate an investigation into photos allegedly depicting him carrying and displaying a firearm in a threatening manner.
Following the three-day remand, Jamal had admitted himself to Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital because of back pain.
His absence was noticed at 5.30pm when the Shah Alam deputy court registrar Rahasbiah Abd Rahman arrived at the hospital to grant him bail.
