TELUK INTAN: Redhuan Embi, 32, had his helmet to thank for when he survived an attack by a parang-yielding man in Kampung Sungai Haji Muhammad, Rungkup yesterday.

“I don’t think I’ll be enjoying Ramadan this year had I removed it. I usually remove my helmet once I hit the village road, but I didn’t do so on that day.

“I was riding a motorcycle and was on my way home from school when I bumped into the man and was about to raise my hand to greet him. I saw him holding a parang, so I thought he was heading to farm.

“However, seconds later, he went beserk and slashed my face, causing me to fall to the ground.

“I ran for my life, but he was hard on my heels. Blood was oozing out of my cheek and I fell again before a team of policemen arrived to help me.

“They (policemen) managed to subdue the man and sent me to the Sungai Batang Health Clinic. My injuries could have been worse if I was not wearing a helmet,” said the father of four who received 60 stitches on his right cheek due to the attack.

Redhuan, a religious teacher at SMK Rungkup, was one of the slashed victims of a man who ran amok yesterday, killing three siblings and injuring four others.

“I know the man’s family but we are not that close. Since the incident, I feel afraid to return home,” he said when met at his in-law’s house in Kampung Bahagia here today.

It was reported that the man, believed to be mentally unstable, killed three siblings and wounded their mother and three other people.

The deceased were identified as Nur Ziah Fasihah Mohd Fadzil, 2, Muhammad Firash Zaffril, 3 and Mohammad Faqhqih Zahirulhaq, 5.

The injured were the victims’ mother, Zuraidah Md Ali, 35, and their elder sister Nur Zuryn Faziera, 9.

Within half an hour, the man ran to SK Sungai Haji Mohamad and slashed two pupils and Redhuan.
