JOHOR BARU: Kampung Melayu Majidee mosque here continues its tradition of giving away 'bubur lambuk', that savoury porridge served especially during Ramadan, for free today.

The mosque prepared about 2,000 packets of the homemade 'bubur lambuk' at 2pm and they were snapped up within 10 minutes during distribution after the Asar prayer.

Mosque’s committee member Azmi Mansor, 55, said the committee had prepared seven large pots of porridge on the first day of Ramadan.

“Even so, it is always not enough for everyone as they will be finished within 10 minutes of distribution,” he said.

He said the distribution of the 'bubur lambuk' has been synonymous with the mosque for the last six years and the practice has become some sort of an annual event for the mosque during Ramadan.

“People kept coming to the mosque and wanted more because we prepared three types of flavours; briyani, curry and soup, everyday,” he said.

Azmi said the 'bubur lambuk' distribution will continue until the 23rd day of Ramadan.

“We will try to accommodate the increasing demands.” he said.
