JOHOR BARU: Some 100 residents suffered damages to their homes when a freak storm blew off the roof of their housing flats at the Lima Kedai public housing near Jalan Lima Kedai today.

In the 4.30pm incident, strong gusts of wind ripped off the roofing of 10 units of houses on each building block of the four storey flats.

A total of 10 building flats were affected.

A victim Aslim Md Rahani, 49, was in the kichen at the time when when he felt a strong wind brushing against the outside wall of his flat which ripped of the roof of his flat.

“Immediately I heard crackling and the roof suddenly gave way. I asked my family to go out while I switched off the power supply to the house,” he said.

Aslim said this is the fourth incident which damaged the roofing in the block since he moved in 16 years ago.

Another resident Rijoni Basar, 32, was relaxing at home after returning from work when all hell broke loose.

“Water seeped through my house causing flooding in the bedrooms and living room area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lima Kedai resident association chairman Abdul Latif Arshad when met at the scene said MCA Gelang Patah chairman Datuk Jason Teoh Sew Hock had came forward with a quick financial aid.

This is to help with the temporary repairs until he received full allocation for the roof damages.

“A BN container was also flung 15 metres to the middle of the Jalan 2 road but with the help of residents we had it removed to the roadside,” said Latif.
