JOHOR BARU: A multi-million road expansion project to widen the 1km stretch of road between Jalan Kota Masai 1 and Jalan Pasir Putih near Pasir Gudang town is expected to ease traffic congestion in Masai district.

The RM9.1 million road expansion project will see that stretch of the Taman Kota Masai road to Taman Pasir Putih to be expanded to four lanes on both sides of the road.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin officiated the start of the project which is slated to take about 10 months to be completed.

Khaled said the road project development was a collaboration between Pasir Gudang Municipal Council and three main developers responsible for Masai township development, namely Eco Tropics Development Sdn Bhd, Grand View Realty Sdn Bhd and Mah Sing Properties.

On the staggering amount for the project, Khaled clarified that the budget was agreed upon during a Project Technical Meeting held in July last year and was on a shared cost between the State government and the three developers.

Based on a study done on the expansion it was found that the four lanes on each side of the stretch from its initial two lanes would allow about 4,000 cars which ply the road daily to pass through smoothly.

Khaled said aside from the Jalan Kota Masai expansion project, another road widening project involved 450m along Jalan Kota Masai road stretching to Senai Desaru Expressway at an estimated of RM12 million was underway.

“We know that the rapid township development in Masai will lead to other problems such as increase in traffic congestion. That is why these two road project are vital to provide sustainable and comfortable living to the residents here,” he said.
